Metal Detecting – Pin Pointers

Pin pointers are not a luxury, but a necessity when digging in hard compact ground.

As any metal detectorist knows, item recovery on hard ground is hard work.

A pin pointer can cut this recovery time in almost half.

I sold my original Minelab Pin Pointer as being primarily a beach hunter I had only used it a couple of times so thought it best to sell it and wait for the new waterproof models which were on their way.

I planned to buy the new Garret Pin Pointer from Doculam as a fellow metal detecting buddy had got one and it looked cool, and it was waterproof to ten feet which is great if you are planning on going ten feet under which I am not.

I enquired about them but at R2500 I decided to rather see if the Minelab waterproof ones were cheaper but they weren’t available in South Africa yet. I then spoke with Wolfgang Roux of Metal Detectors 4 Africa about the new Nokta waterproof Pin Pointers he just got in.

I went to Wolf to check them out and I was impressed with the presentation and the overall quality and above all, price.

Unlike the Minelab pro find series which simply came in a box, this Nokta Pin Pointer came not only in a box, but a nice carry pouch too.

It is fully waterproof to meet the IP67 rating (Protected against short periods of immersion in water), has a LED light, different levels of sensitivity, vibrates, comes with two hard shell cases, lanyard and a user manual and at R1960 I was sold.

I also tested the Minelab ProFind against the Nokta but found the Nokta Pointer did perform slightly better.

Took it out yesterday as well to the beach to test it out properly and it worked a charm locating the small pieces of metal my PI had located.

No more stressing about getting the Pin Pointer wet, just dunked it under and found the target quick, one time.

So there you have it if you are looking for a decent well priced waterproof Pin Pointer then consider having a look at the Nokta Pin Pointer as I feel it is a good buy and will serve you well in your quest for buried treasure.
